I did do Arimidex during radiation with no adverse effects. Made sense to me - no longer doing chemo so there is nothing still 'fighting' cancer throughout body so I wanted to get going on Femara to do what it can to help fight. Your doctor will likely recommend some combination of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. In 11/2010, I had yet another surgery to remove ovaries (recommended since I'm BRCA positive). I was prescribed Arimidex and started radiation yesterday. I haven't started taking the medication because from what I've read, it seems like patients start it after radiation. Arimidex shouldn’t be taken at the same time as tamoxifen.
Benefits of Arimidex. At one point, i fell just from muscle weakness/knee problems and the doctor insisted i use a cane. I have been taking Arimidex for (gulp) 18 months. Check it out online, we loved it. But Cancers most likely to be treated using concurrent treatment include brain cancer, head and neck cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, bladder cancer, and lung and thoracic cancers. More than likely you won't notice any difference taking Arimidex with herceptin along with radiation.You sound very weary of the whole process and have every reason to be. I don't like the stiffness/achy feeling/pain with the Arimidex but my doc has convinced me to fight with everything I got, so that's what I'm doing. She is understanding and knows that I am kinda worn out from all of this..... On the other hand, my oncologist is only nice if you follow his explicit instructions. After that, they switched me to Arimidex since I was then post-menopausal. 6 rounds of Taxotere and Carboplatin, followed by 33 radiation treatments. My hands and feet are always hurting, joint pain. My oncologist wants me to take Arimidex, Herceptin and radiation all at once. It can be difficult for adequate radiation to reach these locations on its own, so chemotherapy treatment is added.Although chemo can help support radiation, we recommend concurrent treatment carefully. This is only a THEORY and has never been tested in clinical trial. The treatment plan with anastrozole usually consist on one pill per day at the same time. I want no regrets!
